We hope to see increased leadership among young people, with more youth stepping into roles in school, local government, and community organizations; higher graduation rates and college enrollment, driven by mentorship and goal-setting; and youth-led initiatives that tackle real issues—like mental health awareness, environmental sustainability, or neighborhood safety.

Our youth projects aim to create beautification projects: cleaner parks, murals, and community gardens that foster pride and ownership; improved public spaces through youth-led design and maintenance efforts; and greater civic engagement, with young people participating in town halls, volunteering, and voting when eligible.

Dominican Republic: Tackling Flooding with Civic Action
In a neighborhood plagued by flooding due to clogged sewage drains, a group of young leaders from Children International took matters into their own hands. Led by Diana, a sponsored youth, they partnered with the mayor’s office and local agencies to clean and repair the drainage system. Their efforts reduced flooding from 80% of the area to just 20%. It wasn’t just a cleanup—it was a lesson in advocacy, teamwork, and civic responsibility.
